Growing up in a Canadian foreign service family, I developed a nose for identifying a room full of Canadians before I could hear their accents. There was something about the vibe in the room, the way people were talking with each other and other intangible qualities that were hard to pin down.
Canadians – that group of nationals who are typically somewhat self deprecating and excelling on the down low – are in your face everywhere these days.
It’s interesting to see how Canada is having a nationalism moment. The self deprecating vibe was clearly just a little fun thing we had going on. We didn’t really mean it – we know our worth.
As it should be.
