Finding Your Way Here

Pamela Chan, BCFamily.ca/Editorial

Since I started BCFamily.ca 15 years ago, over time 1,000s of people have visited this site.  For a few years, online publishing platforms and long form posts went out of fashion. “Blogging is dead!”, the mainstream media announced, while large and micro influencers became the new norm in different online spaces.  In recent years, online publishing has been making a comeback.  Since January, 2010, publishing content online has opened up opportunities for me to be more globally inquisitive while I made connections with people from around the province and the world.  I am deeply grateful for this opportunity.

The content on BCFamily.ca and my related social media pages on Facebook, X (BCFamily), X (BCFamilyMedia), Threads, Pinterest, TikTok , Blue Sky and Instagram is British Columbia, Canada and internationally focussed.

It’s also eclectic and unexpected. For this I make no apologies.

I pull my sources of information from a wide range of local, national and international sources and like to think that this is how my content is different from much of what you see in other family, parent and mom focussed online spaces. I’m not claiming that my content is better but it is definitely unique.

You’re invited to click the like/follow buttons in my social media spaces and let me know that you’re there.  We can share information and – while we engage back and forth – the algorithm will notice your visits and will continue to serve up my content to you.  On sites like Facebook, for example, you can select to have new posts added to your home page and notifications. You can also select to have some or all of my content appear on your personal profile page.

My family and I live a 100 mile lifestyle these days.  In the early years of BCFamily.ca, this was partially true because our twins were young. But it’s also because we’re realistic about living within our means in a part of the country that has a cost of living that can compete with some of the most expensive regions around the world.  As someone who spent my school years and younger adult days (up until my mid 30s) living and traveling around the globe – as a member of a foreign service family and then as a teacher – I enjoy feeling connected to the global community while living intentionally in the Pacific Northwest.  When I look at my visitor stats and I see that someone in Iraq or Finland is reading a specific piece, I do feel excited. (Disclaimer: I used to live in Iraq.)
