BIL is an unconference that takes place yearly and is open to everyone to attend as participants and speakers. If you like TED Talks, TEDX or, one of my personal favourites, PechaKucha, BIL is an event that will pique your interest.
It started early on and it’s been pretty consistent – and often feels like it’s been relentless – every since. All those nattering comments about helicopter parents, pressure today, over achieving parents etc. that we hear about, in the news and in our personal conversations, can go straight to the rubbish bin. Because it’s not me tightening the screws.
A few months ago I started year 9 using Facebook. Sometimes it takes awhile to form conclusions about how people use a product or service. During all of these years, I’ve happened upon two key observations about patterns that you see on Facebook.

When I heard that Facebook would be holding the first ever Facebook Small Business Boost event in Canada – right here in Coquitlam – I didn’t hesitate to put my name down for a space. If you are the administrator of a Facebook page, you will appreciate how it has been a struggle for some time to make Pages function well on Facebook. The visibility of pages on the Facebook homepage has been dramatically reduced in recent months.
If you’ve visited a local library recently, you probably noticed that there is no shortage of people checking out their local branch. Yet I am still amazed at how many people I know who don’t go to the library – ever.
Following in the footsteps of the Keats-Shelley Prize, Young Romantics is a new competition available for writers between ages 16 and 18 who would like to enter their poems and short stories. (Maximum 20 lines for poems and 1,000 words for short stories.) Each work should be inspired by the Romantic poets and refer to the theme this year – Lost Angels.
